Terrible Twos

I had the most humiliating day in church on Sunday. First of all, I was ten minutes late and all the spots were taken in the back and on the end pews, so me and Ava had to trudge up to the front with the congregation's eyes burning holes in the back of our heads. Then once we get all situated I realize that being in such a rush, I left Ava's activity bag in my car. Great. I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. She was occupied with the bulletin for close to ten minutes, then it happened. She spotted her grandma and grandpa across the church and at least 5 pews ahead of us. The pastor had just began the sermon portion but that was nothing to deter Ava from hollering repeatedly, "Gramma! Gramma! I wanna see my gramma! " Not just on one occasion, but about four or five times throughout the sermon. Every time I tried to redirect her to something else she would go straight for under the pew. By this point I was literally sweating and not hearing a word the pastor had said. So once I got her to understand we couldn't go by grandma until the end of church, she decides to let the whole congregation know she has to go 'peepee' and she's not gunna wait. So we crawl back over everyone in the pew and take her to the restrooms where she decides to throw a party with herself, running and jumping and talking all loud. Oh my goodness. Thankfully, we made it out of there a few minutes early before anything else could sabotage this church service. I never realized how much of a disaster it could be for a single-mom to take a toddler to church without the grandparents or the coloring books.
